On October 4, 2020, three experts in the field of medicine signed a declaration calling for a complete change in the way of battling the Covid-19 pandemic. The Great Barrington Declaration, which was written at the American Institute for Economic Research in Great Barrington, MA, called for a ‘focused protection’.

The authors criticized lockdown policies for causing physical and mental damages to the general public. Their aim was to reach herd immunity alongside shielding those who were considered vulnerable.

“The most compassionate approach that balances the risks and benefits of reaching herd immunity, is to allow those who are at minimal risk of death to live their lives normally to build up immunity to the virus through natural infection, while better protecting those who are at highest risk” — The Great Barrington Declaration.

In other words, the Great Barrington Declaration promoted a policy of mass infection to the general public, with no mention of masks, isolations, tests, distancing, or any other method of curbing the spread of the virus.
